So disappointed to she @Darealamberrose is not here. For that reason this list must incorrect and not of actual fact

@bayareavenus says:

Kat stacks is neither Black or powerful.

She doesn't even have power over herself. You disappoint me BlackWeb. What are your standards for powerful? Or Black for that matter? Or is it one of those “I Got Black In Me…” kinda things… if that's the case where are the Kardashians…

Mrs. Armand says:

are you f*c*i*g kidding me!? out of 100 kat stacks is #24?! this is some bulls*it! shes not even black, let alone powerfull;; news flash people>> KAT STACKS IS A SMUT <<

Melanie Beloved says:

this list SUCKS! how is Kat Stacks before OPRAH?! whoever created this list is soooo STUPID.. what is powerful about Nicki Minaj (PLASTIC). ugh, i'm shocked.

Yesh. says:

WHY is Rat Sacks #24?
Ahead of Erykah Badu?
Whoever made this must also be screwing her.

Tay says:

Kat Stacks is 24 and Oprah is 53…. Armageddon is upon us…

Kat's Poor Neglected Son says:

GTFOH! Kat Stacks isn't even black.!She's Venezuelan! Both parents are Venezuelan.! Check www katstacksfraud com

Lisa says:

Hmm could someone please explain to me what's so “powerful” about Angel Simmons? What exactly is she doing on twitter that makes her so powerful?Another thing Kat Stacks is NOT black. She sleeps with a lot of black men though but that don't make her black and Paula Abdul is half arab (Syrian) and half white (Jewish Canadian mother).

digitalsista says:

you can just go here for that: http://twittergrader.com/top/women

you'll notice that there are some faces missing there. This list was created because of that.

JohnO says:

Bit racist this list. I'll compile a list of Most Powerful White Women on Twitter and see how it goes.

guest says:

A D Graham says:

Anjuan I have to agree with BronxGirl (and not because I'm an original Bronx Girl. LOL). I get frustrated when Forbes does these Powerful Women lists and we are hardly mentioned. I write for Forbes.com and am pretty influential in social media yet I know they aren't going to put me on there (although my writing gets a ton of traffic and feedback). I make it a point to connect with real women of influence using social media so that I can promote them, have them on my radio show, write about them, etc. How do we expect people to take us serious when we give such heavy influence to celebrities? We've got to do better. It's not about hating, as much as it is about showing we can hold our own in areas outside of entertainment. @digitalsista for one is a heavy advocate of Black Women in technology and has been a strong influence in social media. Why she's not on the list is baffling. Same with @marvetbritto. I was glad to see @dryerbuzz on there. When I find Black Women on social media it warms my heart. There are more of us out there than you know. I am one of the few (Black Women) that speaks on social media panels.

Let's break this social media thing down though. Define “influence”. Social media is about being social, engaging in dialog. How many times have you seen Oprah, for example, dialog using social media? She pushes out messages (rather her TEAM) pushes out messages. I challenge you to show that a majority of these ladies are really using social media as it's intended to be used. Some of them do, don't get me wrong. And I love Oprah as she is a role model for me. Terry McMillan is one of the few on this last that really communicates outside of purely branding strategy. Ashton Kutcher as “influence” but it doesn't mean he is using it as he should be. If he wasn't a celebrity, what would he have to share.

I respectfully ask that you not look at number of followers but the real engagement and use of social media to make a difference. As I said, I can give you 3 dozen at least including @careerengineer (career management) @babyboomerbev (boomer issues & resources) @smallbizlady (entrepreneurial) @webbusiness (entrepreneurial & tech) @sunnygrrrl (tech) and yes, I'll say it @talentdiva (professional development, entrepreneurship, tech, etc). It's quality over quantity.

Adeea Rogers says:

I was with you until June Ambrose. She called plus-sized women “barrel shaped.” And she has trouble spelling. But I appreciate the list. I would like to suggest a list of influential women who are not celebrities.

Bklynbandette112 says:

Uhmmm, How The HELL was this info compiled? How Is My Girl Valeisha Butterfield NOT On This List (http://www.twitter.com/valeisha) , But KAT STACKS IS!!??? She's Not Black & Has No Respect For BLACK PEOPLE! We have to stop including folks into our race who Only want to be there when it's beneficial for them.
If That's The Case Have Folks Follow ME http://www.twitter.com/StayceHustle.

I want to apologize to @smashedthehomie who appeared for a while in an earlier version of the list that was later corrected. I apologize to her for the confusion, and I hope she understands.

I think I see your point. However, I do have a question. Who on the list do you consider to be 100% black?

Who do you suggest?

Olilia says:

How is Serena Williams not on this list? She has over 1 million followers.

Paula Abdul is not not black btw. She is Syrian.

Why is Paula Abdul on this list? This is 100 powerful 'Black' women!!! Oh and thanks for getting Nicole Ritchie on the list she is however, BLACK!

YESS! Congratulations @RealMichelleW on being the 25th 'Most Powerful Black Woman on Twitter'!!! 😀 #TeamMichelle all the way!

A D Graham says:

This is a list of celebrities. What about real power brokers in the business world?

First off, I am clearly a black man. But I'm actually mixed. But I'll say I'm black because I LIKE being called black. If part mixed people can't make it on a list, then what you want me to tell the gray area people, hmmm?

Being a decent of a Trinidadian, born of a Caribbean heritage, not to mention being part East Indian, yeah… I can see where you are coming from. So, I'm sorry that I insulted people's intelligence with that statement.

However, being that I'm mixed myself… #imjustsaying….

drpepperlite says:

All people fromTrini are NOT black. Many are of east indian descent and some south east asian. How do you get black/african descent out of that? The Carribean is not black only. There are asians, whites, indians and latinos of euro descent thus it is not a stretch to say she is not black, she probably is not…

drpepperlite says:

Why is Paula Abdul on this list she is not black??? She is hispanic and syrian. How do you get black out of that syrians are middle eastern (arab, kurd, other ethnicities) and not all latinos are of african descent therefore she should not be on this list… does not make sense to claim someone who is not one of your own for a list about your own…

Caley says:

Some of the people listed here like Kimora Lee, Soledad O'Bren, Nicole Richie are MIXED women NOT Black. So perhaps you need to revise the same of this list and give proper credit to people of mixed race in America, and stop proclaiming every mixed person to be Black.

Kimberly says:

Nicole Richie is mixed, not all Black, why don't Black people stop trying to claim everybody to be one of them?

ohradiogirl says:

I would like to see a non-celebrity version of this list. To show black women who are really doing some damage using Twitter. If you don't do it then Slate just might … 😉

For those that says “Kat Stacks isn't black”, I was going to write that as well. Sadly, I check her background and she's part Trini. Which makes her part black.

I personally don't see why Kat Stacks is on the list. All she is really is a name brand with a “Book coming out”. I personally don't like her (and even joked about it), but more power to her.

Anywayz, the list is pretty unique and I'm happy to see something like this up… even if the list got one or two questionable people on it (then again, what list doesn't?)

sistasense says:

Can I be 101 (lol). I Love this! I'm working on getting on the list – my tweets are all about informing and empowering black business women. @sistasense 3,494 followers and growing (Yeah!) . I recently spotlighted some powerful black women too, the BBWO50 Fabulous Black Business Women On the Network, http://mybbwo.com/forum/topics/the-bbwo50-top-5….

We need to give our trail blazers shine as often as we can. This was a great post.

Mia says:

Nicki Minaj should number 1

and Kat stacks isn't black let alone powerful

Rosemarie says:

whoat???? Mariah Carey is b l a c k??? we in Europe believe that she is white..ooops!!!ok my hairdresser in Zurich is from Santa Domingo but looks like she comes from Africa…
but what's powerful about those mentioned…. is it because they have the most followers, or due to their fortune, status, occupation, looks… etc…
my brother-in-law ret.General Lester Lyles was once listed to be one of the most ifluential black men in the US. now that to me worthwhile following…ooops! amgorgeous and mixed like your President.but live in Europe… where many white women are jealous of me, cause I still look fab with my 64 yrs.. no wrinkled skin on my body yet…and I ain't no rich superstar who cld. afford any beauty operations ..speak 5 languages fluent and can call Donna Summer (very powerful) my girlfriend, we sang in the Musical Hair together ( all over Europe), met Donna again july 2009 in Munich. http://twitter.com/Mulatta63

Roebish says:

Marie Denee says:

Great list and happy to see my fellow bloggers amongst the list! Also of note is the fact that these women celebs actually engage their audience! It makes me smile! Go Afrobella go! I'm aiming for this list next go round!!!! lol

Congrats to all who made it!

Thanks for the comment. However, this is a list of those who have a great deal of influence on Twitter. It is not meant to be a list of “good people” or “bad people”. It's a mathematical calculation.

Thanks, Faydra!

Wow! I need to make this list.

Thanks for the supportive comments for those who posted them. For those who complained, the methodology we followed was designed to be as unbiased as possible. There are many black women on Twitter who I wanted to be on this list, but they didn't rank high enough using the measures (Klout.com score and TwitterGrader.com ranking) we selected. I encourage everyone who posted a “why is…not on the list?” or “why is…on the list?” to select your own measures and create a list of those who didn't make our selection process. I welcome all the research into how black people use Twitter that can be done. Too many groups are doing this research on our behalf but not with a true understanding of who we are.

Regarding the point about the racial makeup of this list, black people come in all shades of color. This results in the “blackness” of certain skin tones to be questioned. I understand that. This even effects the current President of the United States. I don't think that the blackness of most of the people on this list can be realistically questioned, but it's possible that some can be. That's fine. This list was designed to encourage debate. A list that doesn't provoke discussion and even a little outrage would probably be a poor one.

Thanks again to all who commented.

Great article Anjuan…I would be interested in the top 100 black men on twitter!

Ana Revi says:

Where is Serena Williams?? I mean come on…

Faydra Deon says:

I'm very grateful to be included in this list with such amazing women.

The fact that the list is compiled based on analytic tools, and not on favoritism or one or two people's opinion is the best part.

Congratulations to all the other ladies on the list.

Rodrigo says:

With all due respect, I do not understand what Paula Abdul and Mariah Carey are doing on this list…???

BronxGirl says:

This is a ridiculous list. It is really a list of popular people in pop culture. “Powerful?” Dictionary.com
defines the word as thus:
pow·er·ful? ?/?pa??rf?l/ Show Spelled[pou-er-fuhl] Show IPA
1. having or exerting great power or force.
2. physically strong, as a person: a large, powerful athlete.
3. producing great physical effects, as a machine or a blow.
4. potent; efficacious: a powerful drug.
5. having great effectiveness, as a speech, speaker, description, reason, etc.
6. having great power, authority, or influence; mighty: a powerful nation.
7. Chiefly South Midland and Southern U.S. great in number or amount: a powerful lot of money.

In our society, we give too much of ourselves to people who we don't know, will never know, and mostly speculate about.

I urge every one to look to themselves, their families, and people with whom they have earnest connections for power, influence, support and inspiration.

We have got to keep it real!

MissTee says:

Why the hell is Kat Stacks on here??? I was wow'd out at all these wonderful ladies until I saw Kat Stacks! She shouldn't be on here…period!

markusrobinson says:

There's nothing weird about creating a list for a particular demographic. Forbes has the richest women's list, the richest people under 40, etc. This is done to shine light on a particular demographic, not to knock the excluded demo.

And FYI, Twittergrader.com did publish a list of the 100 most powerful women on Twitter. You won't need too many fingers to count the number of black women on the list: http://twittergrader.com/top/women

Again, I appreciate your perspective, but I disagree. If you can refer me to an issue number and/or month of Forbes with a black woman on the cover, I would appreciate it. The fact that you have to spend more than ten seconds looking for one proves my point.

The list is not meant to disparage other minorities. However, this is blackweb2.0. I encourage other sites that celebrate the diversity of other racial groups who use new media to compile similar lists.

Sandra says:

Why not just most powerful women on Twitter – of all minorities? Not just black women? That is why it is weird. I have seen black women in Forbes, as have you.

I can't think of any other media outlet that bothered to give black women of influence on Twitter the time of day. It's bothersome that some people want to split hairs over “how black” some of these women are. Plenty of the multi-ethnic ladies here “identify” black.

@Sandra: I'm not sure why this is weird, but thanks for the comment. Also, Forbes does publish a list of powerful people. It's called the cover of the magazine. How many black women have you seen on it?

Sandra says:

Think it is weird to have this list…I know this is blackweb but would it be appropriate for forbes to write an article about the most powerful white women on twitter?

@Lgivens: I measured several women who weren't in the entertainment industry, but they didn't have the level of influence that a lot of celebrities have. However, I'm happy that the list turned out to be more than just entertainers.

@Bkbully21: Out of curiosity, what 100 “totally black” women would you list with Klout scores of 50 or higher?

Bkbully21 says:

Half them people wasnt black wtf yal talking about LOL! U saying Kimora is black?? LOL whoever said that just shut up. They obviously doing every race but white

Lgivens says:

Interesting that most of the women on the list are in the entertainment industry. About 25 in other professions and definitely with influence in the journalism, political, film making and other noteworthy professions.

Thanks for the info.

@justinbryan: Thanks! I hope this list gives a view of the diversity of what black women are doing on Twitter.

@DryerBuzz: Thanks!

@Davisgirl77: Out of curiosity, what race would you allocate to her?

@iluvblackwomen: I see you are a prophet . . .

@Gen79: Jennifer Hudson was assessed (as were many other wonderful black women). Unfortunately, she came in at #133. Personally, many great ladies were in the 119 to 135 range.

@Aneika: Thanks, dear!

Aneika_simmons says:

Fantastic job! A lot of useful information here.
