I decided to make the trek out to Berkeley to check out this year’s Startup School (and to let it serve as a serious peptalk–it’s working). Startup School has been held since 2006 by the folks behind Y Combinator, a venture capital firm that specializes in funding early stage startups. Teams can raise up to [...]

Twitter Doing Video Tweets? Uh…No. For some odd reason, Britain’s Telegraph suggested that Twitter would be adding the ability to upload and host video on the site. Never mind the fact that there are several services that integrate closely with Twitter to provide just such a service. Duplicating those features would only hurt Twitter. The rumor [...]

Meme is a Tumblr-like service recently launched by Yahoo. Many have called it a Twitter clone, but the similarities are pretty minimal. The only things they share are those basic features you would find with any microblogging service. Meme is basically a blog where you can post random stuff. There is no 140-character limit, but you probably wouldn't want to use it for lengthy blog posts.

FriendBinder is a service that has been in closed beta for over a year now. At first glance, it's just another social aggregator like FriendFeed, but a closer look shows that they're headed in a slightly different direction. Your average aggregator just pulls in your activity from a bunch of different sources. Most operate just like FriendFeed, providing minimal interaction between the source and the actual aggregator service. In a surprise announcement to many FriendFeed users, Facebook has aquired FriendFeed. Many FF users are absolutely devastated. FriendFeed provided somewhat of a middle-ground between Twitter’s absolute bare-bones status updates and Facebook’s full-on walled-garden social network. While most Facebook users will be completely indifferent to this announcement, FriendFeed users have mixed feelings. Ex-Googlers Paul Bucheit, [...]

Lazyfeed is an web appliction that helps you discover new stuff. You tell it what you like by connecting it to sites you're already interested in or by asking the simple question, "What interests you?" Lazyfeed is an aggregator, kind of like FriendFeed, but it works in a slightly different manner. Instead of finding content based on where it came from, you discover things based on topics and tags.

Just a few days ago, Google Reader launched a few features that make it just a little more social. Powered by Google Profiles, these new features make it easy to find like-minded people to engage with. It's also a lot simpler to share items. While Google Reader is probably one of the most popular RSS feed readers around, it has also been difficult or confusing to do certain things with it until now.

FriendFeed Adds 3 New Features I don’t know how those FriendFeed guys do it, but it seems like they add a new feature every other day. Here is what they’ve added recently: Real-time Search – We all know FriendFeed operates in real-time. New items slide up to the top of the page right before your eyes. It’s [...]

You can now share files on FriendFeed Items on FriendFeed that get the most action are those with photos. They help to engage the viewer by standing out against a wall of text. Now, FriendFeed has activated file sharing, which allows you to upload just about any file you’d like. This has serious implications for other [...]
