What if GlobalGrind fails?

The Internet has been buzzing about the possible demise of Global Grind, the Digg-like Social bookmarking site targeting an urban audience. It’s unclear whether or not the rumors will be confirmed, but as one of only a few venture capitalist funded websites targeting an urban niche, I wonder what impact Global Grind’s failure could have on the urban web space. iGoogle tries sexy and hip with Artist Themes

Though I have been dedicated to Netvibes for a while now I may be making a switch back to iGoogle. Not long ago we covered Netvibes’ launch of Ginger, it’s not shabby by any means and also has lots of cool features, but if you are looking for a start page that can match your personal style or clothes you may want to consider switching to iGoogle. Why you ask? iGoogle recently launched (not sure exactly when but I just noticed it yesterday) Artist Themes. Artist Themes are basically skins by fashion designers and artists. Add some spice to your Startpage with a little Ginger

Ginger is Netvibes newest release, it is described on their site as being:

“Completely redesigned and rewritten, Netvibes Ginger makes it easy for new users to enjoy a wide variety of social content, while enabling them to easily publish their digital lives, with a redesigned graphical widget and feed collection, ready-made tabs, channels and user communities.”

It is basically a mix between the current Netvibes and a social networking platform. Integrating social networking into a startpage could be a cleaver and successful way to increase adoption. In Ginger each account is associated with a profile which includes the trusty profile pic of course and a twitter-like messaging system. (more…)
