The GlobalGrind Facebook app is pretty sweet I must admit. Essentially, what this app does is make it super easy for a GlobalGrind user with a Facebook account to access and utilize GlobalGrind within the Facebook framework. Adding the GlobalGrind Facebook app was simple and took no time at all. When you are logged in your facebook account and click on the Global Grind app, it looks just like the website for the most part. You see the latest popular photos, stories and videos, which you can choose to ‘grind’ or ‘trash’; as well as photos of new users of the week. Users can also submit a link to Global Grind, invite friends or take the Global Grind trivia challenge. (more…)
Are you ready for the music industry revolution? Jay-Z and LiveNation are ready to bring it to you with the announcement of what is being billed as the largest music contract ever awarded at $150 Million. But that is only half the story. The other half is that they are formulating a new distribution and business model that includes getting a share of his live performances as well.
The announcement does not go into details about any of the new distribution models but does infer that it positions Jay-Z and LiveNation to be in a strong position to take advantage of the current and emerging ways consumers will access and consume music. (more…)
Recently launchedMuxtape, has been all the buzz on Twitter the past couple of days. Considering the site just announced its launch March 25, the amount of muxtapes being created was phenomenal. In fact yesterday, I saw a few tweets stating that the service wasn’t allowing any new signups.
Well, I got in there today, and though I haven’t started my muxtape yet, my playlist is set and ready for upload. I just gotta figure out which one of my most played genres I feel like sharing with folks.
Just what you need to start your weekend off — a YouTube video of a rapper — Poetic Prophet — who fancies himself the SEO Rapper. For what he lacks in delivery, he makes up for as a writer. There are some clever phrases in here on the relationship between design and SEO. Too bad he’s not a little more like the Jay-Z of Web rapping, but at this point we’ll take what we can get. Kudos.
To see more of his vids, visit m0serious’s YouTube channel and catch previous raps like, “Paid Search 101 rap” and “Link Building 101 Rap.” We can’t make this stuff up.
As I prepare my presentation for the Urban Network Annual Summit, I cant help but to ponder about all the critics and analyst who keep saying the music industry is dead, this that and the other. But yet there are clear indications (no not Apple) that money can, and will be made. Look at Harry Fox, the agency reportedly paid out more in revenue this year, which shows that music publishing is growing. Concert tickets sales have goon through the roof, And Bacardi disclosed a partnership with Groove Armada, the latest post-major tie-up. (more…)

Wayne Barrow, Producer of the film NOTORIOUS, has started a blog at the Fox Searchlight site to document the making of the movie about your favorite rapper the Notorious B.I.G (aka Biggie) [née Christopher Wallace]. Barrow and his partner, Mark Pitts, managed B.I.G throughout his career and have helped Ms. Wallace build the legacy of her son over the years.
It’ll be exciting to watch the blog and learn about Woolard’s transformation into the legendary Brooklyn rapper B.I.G. If nothing else, at least he lives and looks the part.
So Dancejam.com recently launched and I must say i am impressed. If you are just hearing about Dancejam in this post let me catch you up a bit; Dancejam is MC Hammer’s (yes that MC Hammer) new web initiative. In short it is a video sharing site for dancers. There has been a fair amount of buzz about this site over the past few months, mostly just individuals like myself trying to figure out exactly what the site is about. The initial splash screen that was up had a video of Lil Mama endorsing the site along with snippets of some user videos from the sites private Beta release, to the point but still somewhat vague and still left me wondering what to really expect. Global Revenue from digital music sales rose 40 percent to $2.9 billion over the past year, but that was more than offset by the drop in CD sales.
*30 per cent of all recorded music is sold digitally online or mobile * The biggest threat to the music industry continues to be piracy, with illegal downloads outstripping legal ones by 20-1. * Digital now represents 15 percent of the global music market — up from just two percent in 2004. In the U.S., its 30 percent; in South Korea, 60 percent (more…)
Yahoo launched a new product called Live. It is basically a live video chat but I think what is innovative about it is they have real people broadcasting live, answering questions, and basically giving shoutouts. I am on the JTtheBiggaFigga Channel right now, he is broadcasting live from yahoo offices in Friscoe in their new product services division. Shout outs to Matt over there as well. I am surprised at the broad topics of discussion some of which include social networking, music distribution, widgets, and blogging. There are many channels available tune in if you get a chance, for some reason I am hooked. (more…)
