Groupon Taking Donations for Low-Income Chicago Public School Students
Want to buy a Groupon that will actually help someone? How about low-income kids in the Chicago Public School system. Get out your credit cards because now until August 7 you can.
Unless you live under a rock, you know not only about the high crime rates in Chicago, but also the decreasing graduation rates. Groupon has partnered with the school district to help provide resources for kids in the district.
Users can donate $11 or $18. For each $11 donation Chicago Public Schools will distribute a Kit for Kids school-supplies pack to one student from a low-income family. Each $18 donation will provide both a Kit for Kids school-supplies pack and a backpack for one student from a low-income family.
According to Groupon, the kits contain enough school supplies to last the entire year. Including 30 items, such as spiral notebooks, pencils, rulers, and scissors from name brands including Staples, Acme, and Georgia-Pacific.
This isn’t Groupon’s first campaign with Chicago Public Schools. According to NBC Chicago, last year more than 1,200 students received kits when approximately $15,000 was donated through Groupon.
Over 1,000 have already been bought with 6 days to go. It looks like they definitely will pass last years contributions. 100% of donations go directly to Chicago Public Schools so if you are a frequent daily deals kind of person, you might want to look into making a purchase for a great and much needed cause.
