Know You and Your Partners STI Status With Check-Mate iPhone App

Wouldn’t it be great if you could know your partners Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) history straight off the iPhone? That’s exactly what new app Check-Mate allow users to do.

African-American founder Eli Dancy from Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn created an app that allows users to verify, share and exchange recent STI screening dates and results instantly.

More times than not people engage in sexual activity without knowing their partner’s history or current sexual status which has shown to be very detrimental.

Dancy has spent years trying to come up with a solution to that problem in the African-American community, a community that is at greater risk for sexually transmitted diseases according to the Center for Disease Control.

His first answer was a safe sex smartcard that allowed individuals to instantly share the last times they were screened for STIs. With the success of his smartcards and later boom in mobile applications, he decided to turn it into an iPhone app.

African-Americans may not know their sexual status, but we know for sure they are using smartphones. Using technology to have better access to information may decrease the percentage of STIs in both Black men and women.

The Chec-Mate application allows individuals to locate local screening facilities, schedule a screening and securely store their results for easy confidential sharing.

Dancy has made it pretty simple for people to practice safe sex and become knowledgeable about their bodies. Simply download the app, get tested, register the information to your phone and share with your partner.

Dancy plans to release Chec-Mate 2.0 in the near future. This version will feature a “bump” function which will allow two registered individuals to tap their smartphones together to exchange their STI information directly through the app.

“The Center for Disease Control reports that the most effective form of reducing high STI infection rates is increased by regular screening accompanied by making an informed decisions regarding sexual partners,” Dancy says. “Chec-Mate has done exactly that in a discreet and convenient way.”  I

Dancy looks forward to the Chec-Mate  application having a positive effect on African- American communities as well as all other communities affected by STI’s.
