Who’s gon’ run this town tonight? Apparently, Jay-Z and anyone who has access to a Duracell Powermat, a wireless charging system that provides power at home and on the go.
Jay makes an appearance in the new Duracell Powermat online commercial showcasing a day-in-the-life of a busy New Yorker who needs to stay connected. It shows just how little battery life our phones have – as if we needed a reminder. But, with the Duracell Powermat you can stay up and running all day long.
Shot in Jay-Z’s 40/40 club in New York City, the ad also introduces Duracell Powermat’s Wireless Power Nation, a series of out-of-home wireless charging “hot spots” in key venues. At the end of the clip the main guy goes to pick up what he thought was his phone ringing off the ‘hotspot’. Turns out it was ‘B’ hitting up Jay on his iPhone. He ends with “never be powerless.” Classic right?
It was announced earlier this year that Jay-Z signed a multi-year global agreement with the company as an investment partner. And as witnessed in the commercial, in addition, he is the face and voice of the Duracell Powermat.
Reps tell Black Web 2.0, Jay-Z is not just the face. He will be helping with product development, select advertising touch points, joint activities and events.
“In today’s society our mobile devices have become essential tools in business, entertainment and managing our social lives,” says Jay-Z in the official press release. “The ’24 Hour Power System’ is a way to keep connected without the worry of losing battery life. Being able to charge wirelessly is a necessary step into the future and Duracell Powermat is leading the way.”
The 24 Hour Power System includes a charging powermat for charging one or two devices, a portable back-up battery and of course, the much talked about wireless charging case that fits the iPhone.
The Duracell Powermat Wireless Power Nation plans to partner with numerous venues in New York City and other locations to bring hotspots to places like gyms, bars, and sporting venues. Wireless Power Nation is the thing we always wish we had, on the go charge!
The new Barclay’s Center and Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club are among the very first venues to offer the hotspots.
One word. Dope.
The Duracell Powermat go for $99 in NYC retailers and online. Full nationwide retail distribution will follow in the Fall.
