Bowie State University Opens Innovation Center for Maryland Start-ups
Bowie, MD — Historically black college, Bowie State University and the city of Bowie teamed together to launch the Bowie Business Innovation Center and incubator program. The center provides early stage companies with access to low cost office space, mentoring, and other essentials needed for launching a start-up company.
Located on Bowie State’s campus, The Bowie Business Innovation Center has accepted its first four start-ups and are interviewing for more.
The program received $50,000 in funding from the city of Bowie. According to the Gazette.net, they are slated to receive another $50.000 for fiscal 2013 that starts in July.
Bowie’s city council is supporting the program because it’s advancing small business in Bowie. They hope the start-up companies in the program will bring more jobs opportunities to the area.
Bowie’s Business Innovation Center is the first Maryland incubator to be established at a historically black college.
