M15 iPhone Radio App Lets You Stream Music from Your Favorite Hip-Hop Websites
Music sites like XXL and OkayPlayer release music from different artists daily. They allow readers to download and sometimes even listen to tracks straight from the site. But now there’s an app that curates content from a variety of different sites called M15.
M15 is an iPhone app created by Adrian Grant that curates not only news but streams the music from Rap Radar, Concrete Loop, OkayPlayer, XXL, Miss Info, Karen Civil, and more straight to your phone.
The M15 radio app stems from Motion15. Motion15 is a company that creates mobile applications and consults mostly with black owned small businesses in regards to their technology needs.
“Our goal is to create cool products for the under-served, yet highly digital, African-American market, says Grant.” “We view our client-work as a way of closing the digital divide.”
The M15 radio app solves a problem that a lot of music lovers have: having to sit in front of a computer or laptop to listen to new music on websites.
“A lot of hip-hop sites either aren’t mobile friendly or post music in flash that doesn’t work on iPhones, says Grant.” “So we created an app that allows you to listen to the latest music posted by several popular hip-hop sites.”
When users open the app they will see a list of the most recent songs posted by the websites the mobile app curates from. When clicked, users can listen to the song.
In the “stations” section of the app, it allows users to select a specific site to see the latest music posted just from that particular publication.
In addition to the music, there is also a section that provides all the latest hip-hop news from top-tier sites.
In the future Grant would like to release a PRO version of the app, offering users more features and more sites. This way people have an option from a free and paid version, depending on how much you frequent the application.
M15 radio and Motion 15 are self-funded.
“We’re big fans of the “lean-startup” methodology and hope to scale our business and products that way,” says Grant.” “We aren’t actively seeking funding but are open to having conversations.”
Motion15 also plans to create a video app to accompany M15 radio sometime next month and eventually make both apps available for Android users.
Download M15 at iTunes.
