If you’re a fan of shows like “Cake Boss,” “Dirty Jobs,” and “Pit Boss” and their online and mobile counterparts, you might have Kurt Merriweather to thanks. As the Director of Digital Media Business Development and Strategy for Discovery Communications, Inc., Merriweather is the man to thank. As the Director, Merriweather developed the plans to launch Discover News and some of the TLC cooking properties. In addition, he led the digital media team in acquiring HowStuffWorks, “the largest digital media transaction in company history.”

Concerning the digital divide, Merriweather feels that people of color need to become more proactive and become content creators rather than consumers.

“People of color must master the technology to create and distribute content in addition to consuming it. This will guarantee that stories yet to be told will be authentic, showcasing the rich experiences of a diverse people for all to see.”
