The Source Talks Twitter Beef at New York Social Media Week
As a part of the New York City’s Social Media Week, The Source magazine, in conjunction with StoneBrown Productions, will host an all-star panel to discuss the effect social media has had on the success of the Hip-Hop industry. titled “Tweets, Beef, and Internet Heat – The Keys to Success in Today’s Hip Hop Industry,” Rolling Stone magazine’s annual Year in Review article, this past February, marveled at Hip-Hop’s ability to stay afloat when nearly every other genre of music was in financial turmoil. “Hip-Hop sales jumped three percent, in a year when nearly every other genre dropped by double-digit figures,” the article stated.
Most experts believe that the Internet and social media itself is responsible for this trend. This much anticipated speaking engagement promises to shed some light on the topic and offer insight and tips for artists, DJs, promoters, and producers on how to not only stay afloat, but also remain relevant in today’s temperamental industry. The event will take place on Friday, Feb 11, 2011 from 3pm to 5pm at the Entertainment, Gaming & Sports Hub at Red Bull.
Participants from all facets of the industry are on board to participate in the afternoon’s event. DJ and producer Fritz Celestin will be the cipher’s moderator, managing the event. The diverse panel will include one third of Hot 97’s morning show, Peter Rosenberg, recording artist, Saigon, host and blogger, Dallas Penn, Reggie Osse, Managing Editor of The Source and host of the “Combat Jack Radio Show”, alongside the Social Media Queen herself, Karen Civil. Registration for this and other events taking place this week will remain open until 24 hours before their scheduled start times.
Social Media Week is a group of biannual conferences hosted around the globe to unite people on the premise of understanding and discovering trends in mobile and social media through conversation. This year is the third year New York City has hosted, with plans to be the largest thus far.
