Hoodgrown Magazine Enters the iPad Arena

Online music website Hoodgrown Magazine is launching the first free hip-hop magazine app made exclusively for the iPad.

The extension of the Hoodgrown Magazine brand into the Apple store was the most logical step for the growing site, who ceased production of  their print publication due to rising costs. The app spearheaded by Hoodgrown CEO Chris English and Lord Jamar from Brand Nubian, is tentatively scheduled for for release in late November and will be available for free to users because of its ad supported model. Fans can also visit the website before the app debuts to catch up on the latest videos and articles about their favorite artists.

“Though the website has been gaining in popularity I always knew that one day we would return to our print roots,” says English. “This app allows us to combine the best of the print and web experience in a whole new package. Imagine a hip-hop magazine having the potential to reach 4.5 million iPad owners.”

Unlike larger, more commercial sites, Hoodgrown features many rising artists, and casts a spotlight on regionally based rappers. Pharoahe Monch, The L.E.P Bogus Boys and John Brown are just a few artists who have been spotlighted in the past few months.
