Ning Continues To Thrive As New Features Arrive

Ning made pretty big news this past August with the announcement that they would no longer have a free model. All networks would have to migrate to one of their new “paid” models. Many people predicted the death of Ning but it looks like Ning has made it through the storm and is continuing to thrive. They have announced six new features that have been added to their network which will continue to build on their strong brand loyalty. Let’s take a look at a few of the new features:

1) The Network Creator iPhone App has been approved and available in iTunes. It is available for use from your iPhone, iTouch or your iPad and will allow you to manage your entire network from your device. This continues the Ning everywhere effort by allowing access to your network anytime in anyplace. Ning will continue to add more features and functionality to the app in the upcoming weeks/months as well as completing an Android app as well (I can’t wait!). Oh, and the app is free!

2) Test Networks for your Ning Plus or Pro networks. Make changes to design and feel and then see what it looks like before it goes live. Very valuable feature that has been a long time coming.

3) The Ning API is open. Finally Ning has made their API available for people to design applicationss that incorporate Ning. This is available for Ning Pro users only and the option of using the API is free until the end of the year. Ning is offering helper classes and a nice list of partners to help you maximize the potential of this new feature.

4) Ning will now has a new plug-in which will allow you to mirror content from your WordPress blog on your Ning Network. This is actually one of the most intriguing new features which could really open up things for Ning. This plug-in also allows your members to add comments on both places.

There are additional new features available for Ning, including the ability to make your own iPhone app based on your Ning Network. Check out the complete list right here. For everyone who still manages a Ning network, which one of these new features excites you the most? Have you started to use any of the new features? Meet me in the comments section with your thoughts.
