Urbanworld Film Festival Announces Digital Conference
Cinema connoisseurs rejoice! The Urbanworld 14th Annual Film Festival will be starting on September 15 in New York City. From Sept 15-19, the largest competitive multicultural film festival will showcase the works of up and coming filmmakers, directors and actors. Attendees can also expect to see an enormous amount of black star power with celebs like Nia Long, Kid Capri, Salli Richardson-Whitfield and festival ambassador Kerry Washington in attendance. In addition to the workshops, films, and networking events, the festival is adding a digital component to the festivities.
Urbanworld Digital is a free event that “will address technology’s impact on the creation and marketing of content, with gaming, social media, and production executives sharing their expertise.” The conference is a collaboration between the Urbanworld Foundation, Jigsaw Global. According to their website, Jigsaw is a “digital media education and consulting company” whose goal is to teach digital media best practices to media professtionals.
Hosted by HBO, the digital conference will serve as a meeting ground for film professionals seeking to make contact with the tech side of the entertainment industry as well as learn about the world of digital media. The invitation only digital conference will feature executives from the film and digital world including NamcoBandai America, Screen Actors Guild, and MTV Networks that will share their expertise in social media, gaming, and new media. The creation of the conference acknowledges the increasing importance of using technology to create, market, and distribute film.
“We’re excited about our partnership with Jigsaw Global, which has allowed us to bring the digital aspect of the entertainment industry back to the festival in its own, unique programming track,” says Stacy Spikes, founder of Urbanworld. “HBO is the perfect host for Urbanworld Digital, because HBO continues to innovate in the worlds of film, TV, and digital media.”
