Quincy Jones Green Lights His Own Line of Headphones

Beats by Quincy?

That name idea may already be taken (Let me check), but that doesn’t mean that is going to stop music entertainers from jumping on the signature headphones bandwagon. Similar to designer perfumes and colognes endorsed by celebrities, the music game has its own product that artists and other music professionals are looking to endorse. From Dr. Dre, to Diddy, to Jay-Z, to (dare I speak her name) Lady Gaga, everybody is taking the opportunity to put their stamp of approval on a line of headphones.

What better music icon than Quincy Jones to lend his name to a high-end line of custom headphones? Jones has been in the music game for a while and has worked the greatest artist of his and our lifetimes. So it’s only right that he get his own line of headphones.

Unlike the other artist previously mentioned (with the exception of Jay-Z) who are working with Dr. Dre and the makers of the high (super high) end audio cable maker Monster Cable, Jones has teamed up with another trusted name in audio quality, AKG (A division of one of my favorite companies, Harman), to create his signature line of headphones. Here is what Jones has to say about his collaboration with AKG:

“Throughout my entire career, I have trusted only AKG to deliver the highest standard of sound – the same standard I hold myself to when I make my music”.

Similar to other signature headphone lines, The Jones/AKG team will bring you a line of over-the-ear (can) headphones, and in-ear (earbud) headphones available in lime green, black or white colors, ranging from $150 to $480 bucks.

Quincy Jones has always been an humanitarian and philanthropist, so it comes as no surprise that some of the profits from the headphones sales will go to the Quincy Jones Musiq Consortium, his very own foundation/network aimed at “encouraging collaboration, shared services and advocacy while building community in Music Education”

Look for the Quincy Jones headphones to be available in October.
