The Eyes Have It: Prldr Presents Visual RSS Reader

The quest to find a RSS Feed Reader that is better than our old reliable Google Reader continues as we review Prldr. In the past, we have covered other contenders such as Newsblur and Feedly which came close to matching Google Reader’s usability and convenience. Prldr attacks your feeds in a different way which can actually help the sites that you are reading.

Many times when using Google Reader and other similar services, the actual website that you are viewing does not receive a page view unless you click through from Google Reader to the actual site. According to the algorithm that Prldr is set up with, page views occur as you click through all the articles you have subscribed to. The is a content developer’s dream as they can now properly monetize their site with accurate number of page views online. If everyone was using Prldr and then the entire monetization issue could be solved.

Another interesting fact about Prldr is that users see the actual page of the article you they viewing complete with advertisements, photography and active links that are part of the article. Comments made on a specific article are also shown without having to leave your RSS feed reader. The visual part of this feed reader is very attractive and continues to show that there is a need for a feed reader that focuses on the visual element of news and not solely the text. There could be numerous articles that standard feed reader users are missing or paying little attention to because the lack of graphics and photography that a visual RSS Reader like Prldr has. A mobile version of Prldr is currently in development, but there’s no word on whether users can expect an app for tablet devices as of yet.
For heavy Google Reader users, Prldr doesn;t have all of the features (star, share, share w/note, etc) that you require to be your full-time reader. However, if you have a few feeds that you click through to every article or if you are a neophyte feed reader user, Prldr could be a good place to start. Take the demo for a quick spin and let us know what you think in the comments section.
