Kanye Presents Good Friday and the Free Track Evolution

Looking to add some hott tracks to your music collection? Look no further than @kanyewest. As the latest artist to join Twitter, Kanye is going full speed ahead with his social networking. Not only has he joined Twitter and made his first follower an Internet celebrity, he also visited Facebook and Twitter headquarters and debuted music off his upcoming album.

In order to keep the social media G.O.O.D. vibes going, Kanye announced via his Twitter page that he’ll be giving away free music every Friday. Two days ago he tweeted, “I’m calling it good Fridays. Yall know every Friday yall gone have a new joint from our family. We look at the game completely different now.”

Kanye’s right, free music on the internet has become old. Whether it was through the artist or old school piracy, free music on the internet was buzzworthy. From a savvy marketing decision made by the artist and the record companies to unintentional album “leaks,” the free music ploy has become a little old hat and needs to be spiced up. Kanye is the first major artist to release a track a week which is sure to net him a healthy amount of followers on Twitter which potentially translates into more music sales.

Another artist burning up the bandwidth is Dungeon Family affiliate and Gnarles Barkley frontman Cee-Lo. His new track called “F*** You” has gone viral with 2,785,594 views on YouTube. Whether it’s the attention grabbing name, the classic soulful vibe, or something entirely different that’s causing everyone to click is anyone’s guess. But one thing is certain. When Cee-Lo releases the video of the song along sometime next week along with his upcoming album “Ladykillers” on Oct. 4, the fans will be ready and waiting for their next taste. In the meantime, fans that want to get their hands on the full track can visit Cee-Lo’s website and fork over $1.29. $20 will get you the single and a t-shirt.

As the music industry continues to adjust and adapt to the digital frontier, no artist no matter how successful can rest on their laurels. As tech moves forward so must the beat and when that happens, the people will follow.

Great Article! :) Kanye is a smart dude! and he is around smart individuals.. plainly put, Kanye is smart enough to know he HAS to conform to the new era of social media communications! Soon, as the leaders of the social media age begin to unify, new models for music labels will be developed.

Thanks again!
