MTV Gets Fresh, Names @GabiFresh First Twitter Jockey

Back in June, MTV launched the search for the first ever Twitter Jocker or “TJ” in MTV’s “Follow Me: The Search for the First MTV TJ!” There were initially 18 contestants in the running for the title with an additional two open spots remaining for open nominations. The new TJ would be responsible for handling MTV’s social networking duties including managing the company’s Facebook, Twitter, and blogs. And you’d be hard-pressed not to think that a jockey of any kind wouldn’t get any television time on MTV.

After two months of heavy campaigning  by the contestants and whittling down the competition to the final five we finally have our winner. Yesterday, Gabi Gregg was crowned the winner and will be bringing you MTV’s latest in a style all her own. Gregg is a 24 year old, Detroit native, and social media maven. Under her Twitter name, @gabifresh, she currently has 8.941 follower and has been listed 323 times. It’s a far cry Gregg, who was skeptical of the 140-character micro blog at first.

I think I signed up for twitter in January of 2009. Like many others, at first I was skeptical and didn’t really get the point of it (“How is it different than facebook status updates?” I asked), but I wanted in on the fun. Once I got started, I was completely addicted. Who doesn’t love telling the world what they’re having for dinner? But honestly, it’s been so much more than that…Twitter has helped me big time in terms of networking and meeting people in the fashion industry, keeping up with old friends, and best of all, being able to communicate directly with fans of my blog.

Aside from being a Twitter addict, Gabi is also runs her own blog called Young Fat and Fabulous where she covers fashion for plus-size women.

Gabi will serve as MTV’s TJ for one year where she’ll live in New York City where she’ll work at MTV’s Time Square offices. She will also receive $100.000 as her salary. Be sure to check for Gabi as she blazes trails as MTV’s first Twitter Jockey.
