LeBron Watch: James to Announce Decision on ESPN

After causing a stir on Twitter and the Web yesterday, news has surfaced that free agent LeBron James will announce his decision tomorrow on ESPN live at 9pm EST.  Twitter fans felt the anticipation build as the news spread that “King James” had entered the building, creating @KingJames. Over 100,000 Twitter followers eagerly awaited his first tweet which was far from the game changing announcement LeBron Watch faithful hoped for.

“Hello World, the Real King James is in the Building “Finally”. My Brother @oneandonlycp3 gas’d me up to jump on board so I’m here. Haaaa”

Before word of the deal with ESPN went public, it was widely thought that James would reveal his decision via the Internet using either his newly verified Twitter account or his own website. It was a safe bet that LeBron’s decision was going to be one of the biggest events to take place in social media history. Besides James joining the Twitter community,  the NBA had purchased a Promoted Trend under the name “LeBron James.”

The deal with ESPN calls for an hour long program which mean that basketball fans will have an hour to make their last minute forecast on the future of the NBA. According to ESPN, the newly inked deal allows LeBron reps to sell sponsorship for the special with proceeds being donated to the Boys and Girls Club of America.

While it is a huge let down for social media supporters, there’s still hope that ESPN will livestream the program so it can reach a global audience. If so, stay tuned to Black Web 2.0 for the latest scoop and your streaming source.

Word on the Street is that Bron-Bron is donating the ENTIRE proceeds of his hour-long special tonight to the Boys & Girls Club.

“…Proceeds from “The Decision” will be donated to Boys & Girls Club of America in support of James’ vision to construct basketball courts for youth across the country. The program will be co-presented by University of Phoenix and Bing. vitaminwater® and McDonald’s will also sponsor the program. In addition, Nike and Sprite are making contributions in support of this charitable initiative. LeBron James and his marketing company, LRMR Marketing, were responsible for securing the sponsors for this unique event…”

Being a product of the Boys & Girls Club (back when it was just the Boys Club) I say this is a smart move!

@TheCubicleChickI see where you're coming from, however regardless of where the “network special” money goes people will see what this is about — LEBRON. He continues to crave attention even though he already gets as much (or more) than he deserves.

Ego is at the heart of this “announcement” I am sure. But as a optimist and a true non-profiteer, I like the fact the sponsorship proceeds from this ESPN special will go to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

The bait is working, for I will be tuning in for all of the dramatics!

What's obvious is that you didn't read the about us. Black Web 2.0 markets to black people similarly to the way that Yahoo Shine markets to women or GQ market to men. That doesn't mean men can't read Shine, or women can't read GQ. In fact we welcome you! Feel free to browse through our content, maybe you'll learn something.

I see… Im not african-american (obviously) so I cant be on this site. Thats bullshit!! haha

Sean says:

Read the about page.

Boyd399 says:

why is this called black web?

Amani says:

Lebron shouldn't be having an hour special to announce where he is going. If he must go on TV, go to the local news station of the city he is going to and be done with it. Otherwise, send out a tweet or just put it on his website.

Kind of self absorbed IMO.
