Cakewalk Launches “Superstar” Songwriting Competion

Many of us dream of achieving music superstardom, but for many of us, it’s an unobtainable dream for some reason or another. Quiet as its kept, the people behind the scenes are raking in the dough and living the rock star life just like their famous counterparts, especially producers and songwriters. Some even step into the limelight like Ne-Yo, Keri Hilson, Kanye West, and The Dream. If you think you’ve got the songwriting  or producing chops, here’s your chance to show and prove.

Cakewalk has teamed up with Intel and OurStage.com to present the Superstars Songwriting competition. If you’re unfamiliar with Cakewalk or Ourstage, the former produces music creation and recording devices while the latter is an online community-powered music discovery site. Those interested in entering the contest must create an original track that satisfies one of the six categories (Country,  Pop, Singer-Songwriter, Urban, Rock, and Latin). According to the press release, any recording solution will be accepted so whether you hit a real live music studio or use software, it’s all good.

“At Intel we are inspired by the music and art that creative people can make using technology,” said John Galvin, director, Intel Partner Marketing Group. “As sponsors of tomorrow, we are eager to support a competition like this that will help showcase emerging new artists and reward them with technology that will empower them to be even more creative.

The tracks will be judged on Intel’s Facebook fan page and a top five and a top twenty will be pulled from every category. There are 31 prizes up for grabs including Cakewalk software, Intel- processor computers based computers, that will be awarded to the top five of every genre. There’s also the exposure to the Facebook and Ourstage.com audience.

One lucky person will walk away with $10.000 to use towards promoting their career. Entrance to the contest is free. The submission period for the Rock, Pop, and Country segment of the competition started yesterday and will conclude on August 22. The Latin, Urban, and Singer-Songwriter submission period begins September 1-October 22nd.  For more information, check out http://www.ourstage.com/go/superstars.

Steve Pitzel says:

The best thing about technology is what creative people do with it. It wasn't that long ago you had to pay as much or more for one good piano/vocal demo as you do now for a complete Digital Audio Workstation on a PC.

With talent (don't forget that) and a few bucks you can put out a high quality demo in your home – and enter a contest like this to find the right ears for your song.

It's a great time to be a musician!
