Building Web Businesses
Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow
Tomorrow – The Mobile Web
Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow
From 2012-
- Startup Constraints:
Connectivity: Average connection speed: 30 Megabits (broadband & 4G wireless).
Web Technology: iPhone & iPad SDK, Android SDK, Web Services, IP & wi-fi enabled household & business devices.
Marketing & Promotion: Location-based viral loops, the social graph, content convergence, dynamic mash-ups.
Overview: I’ll refer to this Mobile Web era as the omnipresent Web. During this era, the Web will be everywhere and will be assessable via a diverse array of mobile and IP & wi-fi enabled home and business devices. Connection speed will be an afterthought. 4G mobile connectivity and 30 megabit broadband will be as available as the air that we breathe.
Your mobile activity, daily activity and business activity will seamlessly tie-in to social and professional versions of your social graph. Location-based services will dynamically keep you aware of which of your friends/colleagues are nearby and will recommend which products and services you should use based on the recommendations of friends and those you follow. The Mobile Web will be everywhere enabling us to better consume commerce, content and connect with friends on-the-go.
- Case Study: ??? -
I’m not sure what company I’ll launch during the Mobile Web Era, but I am already excited by the possibilities. The launch of devices like the iPad and new mobile technologies coupled with location-based services and the increasing convergence of video and realtime data make the future of the Web very exciting.
Stay tuned, new location-aware APIs, mobile devices like the iPad and startups like Foursquares are just the beginning of what’s yet to come. If you are a first-time entrepreneur preparing to execute on your vision of the Web, I suggest readying my 12 Hard-won Lessons in Entrepreneurship, it may save you some time and a little frustration.
