Netvibes Now Brings You Dashboard Everything
In the past, Netvibes had become very popular as a start page for your daily journey through the internet. They have recently announced a shift in stategy to become a “Dashboard Everything.” Netvibes is tagging its new movement as “the world’s first dashboard engine.” Netvibes has already showed its value as being able to set up a hub to monitor different keywords, companies and individuals across all major online media platforms. This new shift adds an emphasis on the “real-time web” and monitoring developing trends, people and various topics.
It is simple to begin as you just log on to Netvibes, enter your first topic or keyword, pick a photo that relates to your search word and the most recent news begins to flow onto your screen. There are tabs for news, videos, conversations (Twitter mentions, Facebook mentions, blog results, etc.), and a separate tab for Google results. You have the option to add any feeds that you know relate to your subject. If you navigate away from the site, when you return, you dashboard is there with all the latest information. This is a welcome shift for Netvibes and I can see this new feature gaining greater use. Below are some interesting ways you can use Netvibes to your benefit:
- Set up different dashboards to monitor the latest news on your top competitors in your business. This will allow you to see their successes as well as opportunities you may have to capitalize on their most recent shortfalls. Definitely a must do for all entrepreneurs.
- Create a dashboard to monitor your business. What better way to learn what your current and potential customers are saying about you online. The impressive aspect of the old Netvibes that is carried over into the dashboard concept is the twitter monitoring that can be refined and mentions on Facebook. As social media continues to grow, you need to have your virtual ear to the ground to monitor everything.
- If you are in school and doing research on a specific subject, set up a dashboard on that subject. This is a savvy way to curate information over a long period of time.
- Compile a list of mentors you have and set up dashboards which their names and/or companies as the subject. This will allow you to observe them through a different type of lens.
BONUS: Set up a dashboard with your name as the topic. There is nothing like a little online personal brand monitoring.
If you have left Netvibes in the past, I urge you to re-look at it with the new additions. You might discover a permanent use for Netvibes. Meet us in the comments section to share your opinion.
