ChaCha Gets Social With ChaCha.me

ChaCha.me is a new initiative by Chacha.com that allows fans and customers of popular (and not so popular) individuals and brands to ask questions directly to the source. It’s quite similar to services we’ve previously covered like Formspring.me, Qhub, and BetterMe, which allow you to construct an entire community or profile based around the questions people ask. Quite an efficient and informative way to build a presence.

Managing your brand is all about letting your potential customers and fans know a little more about you then your bio might give away. Sometimes, it can be hard to balance time spent using social media with time spent doing other necessary business. This new breed of service that lets you build out your persona by answering things your audience wants to know takes a lot of the pressure off. It’s also pretty interesting for all involved.

In ChaCha’s case, their aiming to give the service a boost by partnering with celebrities from jump. They’re definitely on the right track here as most of the celebrities making headway in social media already facilitate this two-way communication using existing tools. I think a celebrity taking an hour or so to pop into ChaCha and answer a bunch of questions will be much easier on their schedule than a live Ustream event or sitting on Twitter all day.

First up is David Guetta, 2010 Grammy Award winner (I had to Google him, too). He’s the featured “ChaChee” of the week for March 22nd – 28th. Apparently, he’s collaborated with Akon and the Black Eye Peas. He hasn’t actually answered any questions as of this writing, but has gathered a few followers.

The attraction, as far as ChaCha sees it, is that major brands and artists will feel comfortable using ChaCha.me because they get to decide exactly which questions they choose to answer and publicize. To see how things are set up, you can visit my profile here. You can also check out Michal Arrington’s profile to see what it looks like when people start answering questions. It remains to be seen if any popular companies, brands, or celebrities will pick this up, but if you’re into pop culture, you should keep an eye out.
