Apple iPad Pre-Orders Fluctuate and iPad Gets a Makeover
It has been estimated that Apple has already received about 150,000 pre-orders for the device, which will be delivered some time in April. Apparently, this doesn’t even include people who have pre-ordered at their local Apple Stores. The 150,000 number is the people who have pre-ordered the device online. Acording to one source, “Apple stores received around 300-350 (on average) reservations for store pick-ups on day one, and now sit at around 700 reservations so far (72 hours in).” Apple 5th Avenue store in New York allegedly has 1600 pre-orders for iPads. The first day, they got 800 orders and then 400 each day after that.
Just 3 days ago, Apple sold 50,000 iPads within a single two-hour period. Now, the Apple pre-order frenzy is already dying down. According to work done by Daniel Tello. If you like graphs and charts, check out the visuals at his blog.
Following that initial spike, however, Tello estimates that sales of the tablet PC have, perhaps predictably, evolved “into a relatively straight line slightly sloping up.” Once preorders cross the 100- to 150-hour mark, “a new, more subtle” curve will form “in which the slope will very slowly get shallower as the days and weeks pass.”
As if the iPad wasn’t expensive enough, it seems one company has decided to trick it out and bump the price up significantly. They have taken an iPad and covered it in diamonds. Mervis Diamond Importers has pimped the iPad. I wonder if they consulted XZibit first.
According to the site, the Diamond iPad boasts 11.43 carats worth of diamonds displayed in a “micro-pave styling.” Mervis states that the diamonds are graded highly in color and clarity.
To get your own pimped out iPad, you’ll need to fork over about $20k. The only problem is that they have not specified which iPad you’re getting under all those shiny rocks. You can get a 16GB version of the iPad for $499 with WiFi, and $629 with WiFi and 3G. The 32GB version costs $599 with WiFi, and $729 with WiFi and 3G. The 64GB version costs $699 with WiFi, and $829 with WiFi and 3G. Of course, those prices are without the bling, so Mervis is going to need to clarify exactly what they’re selling here. You will be able to order your own $20k iPad from their site starting in June.

the ipad is an oversized ipod touch. This thing isn't even worth being called a tablet computer. What a piece of expensive crap. No flash… the same harddrive space as an ipod… hunk of junk this thing is.
people should be ashamed of themselves supporting this joke.
So if I get the $20K iPAD and the battery goes bad, do I send it in and get a refurb replacement WITHOUT the jewels? That would suck.
