Step Up Your Music Discovery Game with ExtensionFM

As a self-defined music junkie and an active DJ, I am always in search of new and different music. I recently discovered an extension to Chrome that I am quickly falling in love with. The extension is called ExtensionFM and is only available for Chrome (both Windows and MAC versions). This Chrome extension is brought to us by Dan Kantor who was behind the Playtagger service and Streampad. Simply request access, wait for your download code and then you will be off and running.

Once you get the extension installed, surf to your favorite websites that have music playing or available on the site. Automatically the Chrome extension will show you exactly how many songs are available on the site. Click on the music note and you get a pop down list of all of the songs available on the site. You can play the songs right there from on your website or queue the song for future play. The songs are organized by Artist, Album, Track and also the website where you discovered this song. Note that the website where you are surfing must have the mp3 files posted on the site. Sites like Pandora and blip.fm do not work with this extension. Perhaps that can be an update in the future. Currently, you can sync ExtensionFM with your last.fm account so your musical curation can continue. There is also a “Scrobble” (sync) option with Tumblr blogs which will help you pull some mp3′s pretty quickly.

Additionally, if you discover a song that you want to purchase, there is a buy option which will direct you straight to Amazon.com and you can sign in and purchase the music right there. To get you off and running, ExtensionFM supplies you with six diverse website options where you can start surfing for music right away.

There isn’t much more to share as this is a simple extension that goes a very long way. This is the one reason why I will now use Chrome as my browser of choice as music discovery is so important to me. Check out the video explaining the service. After that, sign up, take it for a spin, and leave your thoughts in the comment section.
