Inbox2 Comes to Your Desktop

Inbox2 Comes to Your Desktop

Inbox2 is a”revolutionary new innovative email platform” which allows you to plug-in your existing email accounts (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, Exchange, AOL) or any custom IMAP/POP3 accounts and social networks (Facebook, Linkedin, Yammer, Twitter, Hyves) in one application.  It is now available for your Windows desktop for free with this download link.

Inbox2 is equipped with powerful search capabilities that allow the user to search within attachments, status updates (including tweets), even when you are working offline. It also shows all your email messages and other delayed messages such as Facebook private messages and Twitter direct messages as conversation streams. The basic foundation of Inbox2 is that it allows you to receive all of your mail across the most popular email/social network platforms and respond right within this application. For example, you can receive an email to your gmail account and respond back from within Inbox2 from your gmail account and the person receiving the message cannot tell that you are using Inbox2 (I think of the old gmail feature/annoyance where it would say “on behalf of” and show an email address you might have wanted to keep private.)  This can be done with any of the email services that Inbox2 supports. A great feature for us who have numerous email accounts with a variety of email services. Check out this quick video explaining the service right here.

Some addtional features include:

  • Easily locate any content related to a contact
  • View multiple social network and email profiles of the contact in one place
  • Documents displayed conveniently in a separate tab for easy sorting and searching
  • Images displayed in a separate tab in cover flow format

The web version of this service is still in private beta and they are not releasing any additional invites at the current time. Another concern of mine is that there is no application for Mac’s which leaves a certain percentage of users out in the cold. Additionally, this service does use a large portion of RAM (Around 256 MB) and does not work with Facebook Fan pages which is becoming more important for people as we move forward. Keep an eye out for iPhone and Android app soon as well. If Inbox2 can work on the above mentioned issues and join the Mac family as well, we may have a winner.  Have you used Inbox2? Tell us your opinion.
