Cablevision To Give Viewers A Channel Of Their Own
Cablevision Broadband Internet and video subscribers will be given their own channel where they can watch online content from their personal computer on their TV without any cords or additional stress. According to Reuters, the company plans to launch trial services in June, as Cablevision hopes its 3 million New York subscribers do not drop their cable-TV for the sexier (and cheaper) Internet-only subscription.
Named PC-to-TV Media Relay, the technology used will let the customer transfer anything available for display on their PC to be viewed on a dedicated TV channel. There is software to be downloaded in order to enable the service and it won’t work with Apple computers. Subscribers can view their content only with the touch of a button.
No prices have been announced yet, according to Cablevision, is still working on integrating Apple users into the fold, and plans to extend the service to handheld devices connected to in-home wireless networks. With video importance becoming undeniable Cablevision looks at sites such as Hulu or YouTube as a direct threat to their audiences.
