Record on the Go with Comcast’s Updated App!
Comcast has updated their iPhone and iPod Touch app to know allow you to program your DVR from the device. Users can now search and schedule new recordings, cancel recordings and sort TV listings by category. This is a free app and will also allow you to do many of the standard services the Comcast allows. Features include: push alerts that indicate when new Comcast emails and voicemails have arrived; the ability to forward pictures and voice mails as an attachment; mark unwanted emails as spam; and access external (POP/IMAP) email accounts. The Smartzone Inbox portion of the app allows you to enjoy the Visual Voicemail with background photos. The Digital Voice portion of the app allows you to view your home phone call logs for missed and received calls, forward your home phone calls to your iPhone®( or other numbers) and listen to your Voicemail in any order and click to call back.
The new app is called Comcast 2.0. and is available in the Apple Store right now. Comcast is very late to the game with this type of app as one of their top competitors (Direct TV) has had a similar app out for over a year. Additional concerns is that Comcast is rolling this feature out in stages across the country with the goal of the entire country having full access in “several months”. Initially it will go out to the 3.1 million homes that have the new Program Guide. The rest of the Comcast customers must wait. There is a nice bonus within the app once you do get it. You can watch the latest On Demand movie trailers as you search for your next purchase. For all Comcast subscribers with an iPhone, this app now seems to qualify as a “must have”!
There is supposed to be a Blackberry app coming in the very near future. What is also missing from Comcast’s app platform is an Android application. When asked about this, the Comcast team responded that they are working with developers on a release date for the Android. I suspect an Android app will be released in the next four months.
