Three variations of Worldstar's name in the tags? Now that's juice.
Justme says:
Why just gossip? Entertainment sites?
Lynne d Johnson says:
@justme – That's a good question, I'm a little curious why there aren't any news or informational sites on this list — possibly maybe even some social networks. When I see “top urban sites” – I'm thinking inclusively about sites, including portals.
Also, I'd be really interested in seeing what comscore and nielsen numbers look like for these sites relative to some of the larger players like BET, BlackVoices, and Interactive One's site network (under BlackPlanet.com).
And finally, I'm interested in knowing what the overall list that determined what was urban looks like. If not who was on it, what was the requirement for being on it, so that it ended up being whittled down to this top 10. In other words, what was used to determine which sites were “urban.”

Guys since we partnered with Jumpoff.tv for this is is in actuality the top 10 HIP-HOP sites, though this was the title it was given. This is why you don't really see in other sites in the line-up. Additionally none of the big players we taken into account, most of the sites you'll notice are independent owned sites. Hope this helps to clarify.

They are Hip-hop sites as we partnered with JumpOff.tv for this list and helped them pull it together. Thx for commenting!

Dammnn what about necolebitchie n the ybf?! those 2 sites are way better than mediatakeout. mediatakeout is like the black national enquirer!
Lynne d Johnson says:
Thanks. This clarifies things a lot for me.
blackweb20 says:
MediaTakeOut gets serious traffic. The list was pulled together using Compete, Quantcast, and Alexa.

This is an excellent list of hip-hop sites. It can be used as a go-to reference guide. I plan to use it as such. I hope my readers will as well.

Shame on BlackWeb2.0 for supporting the unsupportable. I visited two of the “Top 10″, including MediaTakeOut. The general immaturity and unrelenting homophobia is appaling.
This is beyond me not being “part of the demographic” Yes, I'm a 32 year old woman (a hetero, if it matters). This is beyond “but they make their paper.”
Giving rise to these kinds voices is completely inappropriate if education and/or correction aren't part of the deal.
Still loving me some BlackWeb2.0 and will continue to do so. This post, however, and the “partnership” gets a huge thumbs down.
blackweb20 says:
Sorry you feel that way maltiti. Regardless of the “partnership” these sites are some of the most trafficked independently owned sites in the space….period.
Furthermore it isn't up to us nor our mission to educate these websites on moral issues. That is beyond us. We've never went on record to say we support the content on these sites which is exactly why at the beginning of the video the host mentions that the list was put together using Compete, Quantcast, and Alexa…some of the most popular tools in tracking visitors to websites.
Thx for commenting.

Why…
Pulling them together effectively so that it works the “WAY” you need it to is priceless! these projects help us do just that! How do you adapt adopt and integrate technology into your culture, your creative lifestyle, your community and us…

We all knew that the top ” urban” websites were just entertainment sites, so why are black people obssessed with gossip?
There are plenty black websites but gossip is the trump
YB says:
This list is sad on so many levels.
Free Mixtapes says:
I think number one and number 2 are the most influential…great list.
