12 Days of Techmas: LG BD390 Blu-ray Player

by Sherri L. Smith 12 Days of Techmas: LG BD390 Blu-ray Player

If you or someone close to you is serious about their HDTV viewing, you might want to invest in LG’s BD390 Blu-ray player as a gift. According to CNET, the BD390 has excellent picture quality. It plays in Full HD 1080p resolution so it’s pretty much a given that every explosion will be a beautiful fiery plume of red, orange, and yellow. And when it comes to closeups you’ll see every single pore on a person’s face for better or worse. In addition to the Full HD, there’s also the Cinema mode that allows you to watch movies at 24 or 60 frames per second, the way they were meant to be seen. There’s also DVD up-scaling so your old DVD’s can get some of that 1080 love too.

But these days, a Blu-Ray player has to do more than play movies at iris-melting HD quality. With HTPCs cutting into the market, Blu-Ray players have to have a few more bells and whistles and this player delivers. The biggest selling point about the BD390 has to be the integrated Wi-Fi Connectivity. In case you’re wondering what’s so great about having Wi-Fi, I have two words for you — media streaming.

The player streams movies, TV, music, and videos directly to the player via YouTube, Vudu, CinemaNow, and Netflix. Just connect and you got an almost endless supply of entertainment at your fingertips. You can also stream content from your home computer via your home network, so you can stream slideshows and other cool personal media when company stops by.

If you’re interested in gifting this to someone, Amazon is retailing the LG BD390 for $389.
