12 Days of Techmas: Samsung Consumer Memory Cards
There is something so satisfying about having the ability to store enormous amounts of information on something about the size of a quarter. This is why I love flash cards, in particular SDHC cards. Seriously, I’m working on maxing out a 16GB in my digital camera, about one year, 2200 stills, and a few videos later, I still have room for about 518 stills left give or take.
As much as I love tiny tech, it has to be durable. I’ve been known to be a little hard on my toys, so they have to be able to handle the rigors of being my latest tech obsession, including accidental drops and spills. Samsung might have the answer to my dilemma with their new memory cards. This is the company’s first run at creating its own branded memory cards for Joe Public, previously they only created memory for electronics companies. The Samsung card is pretty with its brushed silver or natural beige metallic finish. It’s almost too pretty to put into another gadget. Almost.
The best thing about this little baby is that it’s rugged. It’s water, shock, and magnet-proof so it can take whatever a clumsy or sadistic tech lover can throw at it. The press release states:
“Water-proof* – Innovative Epoxy Moulding Compound technology helps withstand over 24 hours in sea water.
Shock-proof – Survives high pressure, including the crush of a 1.6-ton automobile.
Magnet-proof – Resists over 13 times the magnetic force of home theater speakers.
Fast & superb data recovery – Free proprietary software assists with up to 3 times faster recovery.
Up to 10 years’ data retention – Capable of storing priceless data for longer without a refresh.
*Not applicable for Samsung Compact Flash Cards.”
The worse thing about it is that it hasn’t hit the States yet. Available in 8 and 16GB varieties, Samsung’s new rough and tumble Flash cards will be a hit with the tech lover in your life.
