You’ve heard of smartphones, now meet the smartwatch. Ontario-based mobile solution company Allerta has made the official announcement that the inPulse Bluetooth watch for BlackBerry smartphone is now available for pre-order.  Its being billed as the first wristwatch to work with the popular mobile. The watch isn’t a phone per se, since it doesn’t allow you to make calls. It’s more of a Blackberry accessory, alerting users to incoming calls, emails, and the like. So when the phone rings, you’ll still have to whip out the old cellie to answer the call.

allerta_product_watch_xlThe lack of actual phone capabilities is a drag, but Dick Tracy fantasies aside, this is a pretty cool gadget considering all the cell phone bans that are cropping up. The inPulse connects with your Berry via a Bluetooth connection. From there you can set the time, alerts, and message filters from your Blackberry. In addition, if you receive Twitter updates through SMS, the alerts will shoot directly to the watch. The watch is pretty user friendly only requiring a one-time download of an app that enables wears to receive alerts and customize the device.

The inPulse comes with a large 1-inch brightly colored OLED display. The body. comprised of a full metal body with a glass lens,  has a simplistic design that’s won’t cramp your wrist’s style a.k.a., fashion carpal tunnel. The battery reportedly lasts four days. When it’s time to recharge, you can charge it with your Blackberry’s charger provided you have one of the newer models (Storm, Tour, Bold 9700, etc.). If not a micro-USB cord is included for use with the built-in micro-USB jack. Recharging is a fairly quick process taking approximately 30 mins to get a full charge.

The first edition inPulse will be available in February 2010, hopefully in time to give that techie in your life a worthwhile Valentine’s Day gift. The inPulse is selling for a reasonable $149, so get your pre-order in now and be the first kid on the block with an honest to goodness almost wristphone.
