Aviary’s Myna Makes Audio Editing Simple and Social

by rahsheen Aviary’s Myna Makes Audio Editing Simple and Social

Myna is a web-based audio editor from Aviary. Very rarely do I come across a web-based application that surprises me, but Myna has done just that. I had no idea such a powerful audio tool could be stuffed inside of the browser. If you’ve used Pro Tools, Audacity, Ardour, Garage Band, or any other advanced audio editor, you will feel right at home with Myna.

Myna has all the basic features you would expect to find in an audio editor, but not so many that it’s confusing. Everyone from the most casual user to audio experts will be able to get some use out of Myna. Importing loops and samples is as easy as uploading a file from your computer. Most actions are accomplished by simple drag and drop. The interface is clean and uncluttered. It’s also very responsive given the fact that audio editing is one of the most resource intensive operations you can do on a computer.

The most exciting thing about Myna in my opinion is the huge library of samples provided via Quantum Tracks. This means that, no matter where you are, you can jump on the Internet and get your Kanye on. Simply drag and drop samples into your session, loop them, chop them up, and create your own original creation.

Once you’ve created your music, you can lay down that hot fire by recording from your computer’s mic directly into Myna. There isn’t a full-on auto-tune feature, but you can still do the T-Pain thing with the Pitch Shift feature. Other effects/features include: Parametric EQ, Reverb, Flanger, SweepPeak, Stereo Delay, and Hi/Lo Pass filters.

Once you’re done lacing the track and locking the flow, you can do a Mixdown. This will allow you to download the track and also makes it public on the Aviary website. Any user on the site can create a remix of your creation. You could also use Myna to collaborate with other artists remotely. I know a few artists online that I’d like to collab with, but sharing complete audio sessions over the net is a pain.

Myna is a solid project and I look forward to playing with it in the future. What about you?
