FCC Uses Twitter and Blog to Evangelize National Broadband Plan

by Robin Caldwell FCC Uses Twitter and Blog to Evangelize National Broadband Plan

The Federal Communications Commission has launched a blog and a Twitter feed in an effort to strengthen its resolve to take the discussion of broadband use directly to the people. The social media campaign supplements the overall plan of the agency to engage the public in an ongoing dialogue.

The blog -BlogBand – is posted on a FCC website, Broadband.gov, a beta site that is solely about the National Broadband Plan. The site is easy to navigate with all of the essentials to answer questions regarding the plan. Agency officials run both the blog and Twitter account.

Starting this fall, the FCC will be conducting a series of workshops involving “key constituents” including service providers, applications providers, equipment providers and community groups. The public can submit suggestions for workshop topics and questions by visiting a microsite developed for feedback and has a special function to attach documents for the coordinators. And every workshop will be a webcast.
