Stanford iPhone 101: App Development Videos available through iTunes U

In a recent post on Black Digerati we gave our perspective on why African-American Digerati’s should become iPhone app development entrepreneurs. Prior to the post, some of you may have already taken stabs at creating your own iPhone app, while others of you may not be sure where or how to start. Luckily for those of you in the former and perhaps in the latter, Stanford University department of computer science recently started offering the video recordings of their 10-week course on developing iPhone apps, taught by two Apple employees, downloadable for free through their Apple’s iTunes U educational channel. The videos can be downloaded to your iPod, desktop, and or notebook for easy mobile learning.

Depending on what kind of learner you are (i.e. visual), learning how to develop iPhone apps by watching an expert walk through the steps may be more beneficial to you versus trying to decipher the verbiage in a book about the subject. To also assist you with your learning, the course syllabus and slides are freely available to download on iTunes or at http://cs193p.stanford.edu.

As mentioned before, our push for more African-American digital natives to become iPhone app developers goes in line with one of our main initiatives, which is to increase the number of African-American digital natives designing and developing emerging technologies. For those of you that have already developed an iPhone app or any other mobile app that you would like to unveil to the digerati community, please email us at digeratilabs@gmail.com.

Hopefully more of us will jump into this. I’m wrapping up my first iPhone app as we speak. Learning Objective C is just like any other language. THe logic is the same, the syntax to write the code is your main hurdle. Ok, and learning the keywords too.
