pLot CEO Yves Darbouze Takes on Rupert Murdoch and Champions Digital Media

Depending on which side you’re standing on, you’ve got to love the confidence of pLot Multimedia Developers CEO and creative director, Yves Darbouze, who issued the following statement (more like a promise) to media magnate Rupert Murdoch on his blog,

What you are doing is making room for 3 guys in a garage who are really smart about finance, economics and all things “Wall Street” to create an online publication and crush WSJ.com. (Thanks Rupert Murdoch for Committing Suicide)

yvesdarbouze2Yves Darbouze knows he’s right and has a track record to prove it. In 1995, he published an online and print magazine, Ya’ll Street Journal, hardly the direct competition of the Wall Street Journal and WSJ.com, but formidable indeed. If nothing else, Darbouze prophesied of the day when digital media would rule with free content and ad supported sites. And the Web has been very good to Darbouze and pLot who can boast of clients such as Mucinex, P. Diddy, Bad Boy Entertainment, Frank Sinatra, Barack Obama and Pepsi.

One of his latest projects involves client Bob Harper, better known as “Trainer Bob” of NBC’s Hit Reality Show, The Biggest Loser, who is working with Yves Darbouze to take the “Trainer Bob” brand into social media with unique spin and business model. Harper didn’t want to go the route of other fitness and health brands and charge his website users for content or access, Darbouze agreed and worked out a strategy that enables the site to pay for itself.

MyTrainerBob.com launched on January 1 and has over 100k members. Plans to launch mobile phone apps and other application with other brands in categories like hydration and sportswear are in development.

In regard to the monetization for the site Darbouze implemented a theory of pLot’s that brands should integrate with the site’s content.  The end result of pLot’s work is a sponsorship for the site and content integration for 18 months by Insurance giant Wellpoint’s Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.
