I was directed to your post by a client I am working with to develop a strategic social media marketing plan. Her words: this is exactly "what we don't want."

Like you, I took the time to register and it truly makes me sad. So many students and administrators could have benefited from this program.

I'm wondering -- did the featured schools and Greek organizations pay based on which floor they were on? I can't imagine that any of them feel that they got their money's worth. And even if it was free, it creates a poor representation of their organizations from a branding perspective. The site is not interactive, it's anti-active!

I could have set up a better one on a free Ning platform, with videos, audios, live chats and more. I hope they try again because there is great potential here.

Yeah, this is a tad bit weak, it actually reminds me of how Geocities use to look back in high school. I will admit I didn't actually register, I just took a look at the splash page and it pretty much backed up your assessment. It is pretty sad that this is what we (black people) have to offer. We definitely tend to be behind the curve when it comes to properly utilizing technology. Just thinking about the idea, there are so many ways that this could be integrated with popular social web and mobile web applications to make this a truly rich and useful experience. Oh well, perhaps next time.

iLive in the DC metro area & I told the ppl @ radio one & wpgc over four years ago about Social Media & they laugh in my face while others tried to steal what I was telling them & today I look out on the web & I still see nothing new from my black ppl I am talking in the ways of creating new not following the old Video Games iPhone app Cell phones apps & so on I am glad to see TJMS trying to do it now but is it to late? I just want to say not to brag but more of respect I was one of the first if not the first African American to not only video & edit but to post VideoPodcast in iTunes in '04 '05 create my own flash players on myspace & to do video sharing on the web & during Darius Morgan 1st Bike Ride in DC "Big Tigger" I told him about iPhone Apps & the new Google phone. The reason I am saying this is to let ppl know we as African American can do more then music & sports. rugeniinc.com & stillhustlin.com rugeninc.com was launched in '04 it was my 1st website & all the video went right to left not up & down like most site of today & yesterday then I started stillhustlin.com a social video sharing site but without the correct funding to keep the site up I had to shut it down because I was averaging 100 thousands downloads per day & I had to pay out of pocket for hosting. I have a new site & I am now working on funding but it is even harder now because of sites like ning where anyone can have a social site up & running in minutes but to me it's not the same as if you were to build it from the ground up. We as African American must control our own media look @ black radio today I heard it's going down the tube but I say it's moving to a different domain. Randy Carper 678-500-5000

They made the safe play. Attacked something that they didnt know about and went with the company that is behind the curve on how they execute. What did you really expect from the Tom Joyner Morning Show? At least they are trying something. Good idea bad execution. The good thing about this, is that there are a lot of other radio disc jockeys who have a larger reach to the 18 and under college bound audience that could do it right. Good write up Angela

Interactive One also has more staff and resources – there is still no excuse, but I am just saying. Also, Reach has been doing a lot of the interactive support and dev work for Radio One for years…LOL and sometimes today… I am willing to bet MONEY this execution was last minute and and given with no direction – the interactive staff @ Reach could've done much better with proper leadership and reasonable time (like 1 week) LOL…and now they've been put on smash

I have to think it s better than what what they are doing now. There is no excuses for being that far behind, I can understand a few years…five even…but this is just craziness. Also while Interactive One may have their issues (all companies do) what I can say is their execution in terms of user experience is atleast decent.
