Fujifilm Brings the Real in 3D
by Sherri L. Smith
Alright, so if you’ve been checking out my posts since I started writing for BlackWeb 2.0, you’ve noticed I’ve been going a little camera nuts. But can you really blame me? This has been a great couple of months from cameras. They’re getting getting slimmer, sharper, and increasingly intuitive and user friendly. Well my camera fascination was getting a kinda intense, so much so that my editors staged an intervention. Okay, okay, it wasn’t that serious, but I had to cut back on the camera coverage. Everything was gravy and then I saw this beauty from Fujifilm and I was off the wagon again.
So let’s talk about why I’m so geeked. The makers of the popular FinePix series has made it even finer with the addition of the FinePix Real 3D W1. Notice that 3D in the model number? That’s right, Fujifilm has launched the world’s first camera. The W1 has ability to take images in 3D and view them without the help of those dorky 3D glasses they hand out in theaters for B-grade movies.
So how exactly does it work? Using the new “Real 3D Lens System,” the W1 uses two hgh resolution Fujnon lenses
secured by a rugged aluminum die-cast frame. Users can check out images in 2D and 3D via the 2.8 inch LCD monitor. Another component of the 3D system is the “RP (Real Picture) Processor 3D.” It synches up the data from the two lenses and the CCD sensors and combine it into one cohesive image for both stills and movies. That’s right, you can shoot movies in 3D with this baby. And don’t sleep on the 2D images. Since you essentially have two cameras in one, allowing photogs to take two different shots simultaneously with the touch of a button thanks to the “Advanced 2D Mode.”
And to share the 3D goodness with friends and fam, there’s the Fujiflm Real 3D V1, an eght-inch digital viewer that displays your 3D stills and movies in high resolution. Data can be uploaded via memory card, or directly from the camera or your computer using the USB port. There are twenty different playback modes so your presentaton will be more than the average slideshow. Speaking of presentations, Fujifilm has also developed the technology to print out your 3D mages and will be launchng a printing service for all your 3D print needs.
Set to release in September, there is currently no price set for either the W1 or the V1.
