Microsoft School of the Future: West Philly

As many of you know in the black community we constantly pontificate about how schools in our urban communities are inferior to schools in the suburban areas of our major cities, especially in Math, Science, and Technology. The problem is we never get around to really discussing solutions to solving these problems. Well, here at Black Digerati we’re all about bringing you creative ideas and solutions to bridge the on going digital divides in our community. An example of a creative idea is the $65 million high tech high school built by Microsoft in a rough part of West Philadelphia. Check out a mini documentary about the school below and pay close attention to excited the these young black kids are about technology!

students need to stop blaming schools or teacher for grades or scores and need to take responsibility for their own work, a hard work ethic and being accountable defines us on who we are to become.

How cool is this! I hope some of these kids get bit by the coding bug. Not only do we need to be consumers of technology, we need to start positioning ourselves to be the builders of technology. Let's hope schools like these become the catalyst to do just that!

This is outstanding. The best building in the area isn't a jail, it's a school. One that's developing real world leaders for tomorrow.
