Look Ma, No Wires! ASUS BR-HD3 does wireless HD
by Sherri L. SmithNow that analog TV is officially dead and buried and we’ve paid our respects, it’s time to fully embrace the joys of digital media. One such pleasure is the ASUS BR-HD3 Wireless High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) kit. Part of ASUS’ latest suite of must-have products, the BR-HD3 will help to build the ulitmate home entertainment system.

The BR-HD3 is a tranmitter/receiver package that can stream high definition images and audio wirelessly. Well not totally wireless. There is the HDMI cable on the transmitter that connects to a PC or another HDMI device but everything else is totally wireless which, considering the usual home entertainment setup with it miles of wires, one itsy bitsy wire is a welcome relief.
The wireless component also includes the non-line-of-sight function which enables the BR-HD3 to easily do its thing through walls and multiple rooms. Which is good for pausing the action when you have to run to the kitchen for a quick snack break. But while ASUS is definitely making a run on the home entertainment market, they also made sure that the kit is office friendly, capable of streaming those important presentations.
The device handles the typically large HD files by compressing the files in JPEG3000 format and distributes video screens via 802.11n technology. The audio is processed via “embedded Analog Devices HDMI ICs and audio processors.” And to keep things secure, the kit also supports High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) compliance to make sure unauthorized devices don’t get access to your precious multimedia.
With its clean lines and sleek look, the HDMI kit would make a great addition to any board room or living room. The lack of wires makes for convenient setup. No word on pricing yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
