Flickchart: Movie Rankings Gone Social

by rahsheen Flickchart: Movie Rankings Gone Social

Not so new service Flickchart caused a stir on FriendFeed the other night with a new feature update that makes sharing much easier. Flickchart actually launched last year sometime, but has been in hibernation for a while now. If you’re into movies or just like ranking stuff, Flickchart might be for you.

What Is Flickchart?

The basic component of Flickchart is a simple ranking system. You’re given two movie posters and you must choose which movie you liked better. This is sort of like the match game on Tagged or the ‘Hot or Not’ game you may have seen elsewhere. I must warn you that it is highly addictive. The pairings that show up can sometimes leave you at a loss because you really don’t want to have to choose between two of your favorite movies.

Boyz ‘N The Hood or Terminator? I, Robot or Desperado? Set it Off or Smokin’ Aces? The Thing or The Wood? The possibilities are endless. Yes you can compare seemingly unrelated films. As Louis Gray points out, you really do like one more than the other. Sharing those difficult decisions with others is actually most of the fun and Flickcharts recent FriendFeed integration makes it much easier to do so.

Why You Want It

Besides being highly addictive, Flickchart provides a wealth of information to you about your favorite movies, your friends’ favorites, and the greatest of all time. Rather than trying to tell you what movies are hot, it uses simple crowdsourcing to gather real data from you and your friends.

You probably think you know what your Top 20 movies of all time are, but you may be surprised by the results you end up with in Flickchart. You can also see individual movie stats, watch trailers, and check out your friends’ profiles to see what they like.

The service is still in it’s early stages, so you may experience some hiccups, but they are very responsive to user feedback. It seems that Flickchart is not actually open yet, but you may be able to sign up using this exclusive link from LG’s post.
