Tech Week in Review: BlogTalkRadio, Disqus, Flock, eSocialWeb, Chrome
by rahsheenBlogtalkRadio’s New Chat Interface
Just got an email from BlogTalkRadio talking about their fancy new chat. One important new feature is the ability to save the chat log once the broadcast is done. Other additions incude:
- Private chat with individual room members
- Pre-defined messages (to remind users to register, post the call-in number, frequently used links, etc.)
- Video integration for featured hosts
- Image sharing with the entire room
Disqus Twitter Sign-in
After just recently adding the ability to also tweet comments you post on Disqus-enabled blogs, Disqus now brings us the ability to comment using your Twitter account. You don’t have to give up your actual Twitter credentials since Disqus takes advantage of Twitter’s OAuth support. Twitter sign-in will make it much easier for people to join the discussion on Disqus-enabled blogs. Publishers should proceed to Admin/Settings and enable the feature under Options.
Flock 2.5
The new version of the popular Flock social web browser makes it that much easier to share stuff with friends. You can simply drag and drop stuff between services. For example, drag an image from Flickr to Twitter and it will create a tweet for you. Facebook chat has also been integrated directly into the browser, which also allows for drag and drop. One other important feature is called Flockcast and lets you post to multiple social services simultaneously. Something like Ping.fm or Pikchur. (via CenterNetworks)
eSocialWeb
As if we needed yet another place to share, rate, and recommend links. eSocialWeb works a lot like Likaholix or Digg, except that it focuses on websites and web apps. This might be a nice little community to jump into if you haven’t already got hooked on the alternatives. It remains to be seen if focusing on a small niche will be what keeps eSocialWeb afloat. Google Chrome Updates
The fastest browser I’ve used to date has to be Google Chrome and they have just added a few updates to the stable release that make it run about 30% faster. They provide a stable version, a beta version, and a development version. If you’ve been running the beta, you already have these tweaks, but they were only added to the stable release yesterday. Added features include: auto-fill forms, full-screen mode, and editing the new tab page. If you haven’t tried Chrome yet, go download it here. (via ReadWriteWeb)
