12seconds Plans to Plug Into Facebook
by rahsheen12seconds is one service that never ceases to amaze me. Not only do they run an awesome video microblogging service, but they always seem to think of the coolest features to add and they stay connected with their community. You may wonder what that mysterious video service is that’s integrated with your Tweetdeck. If you’re looking to get into video, but you have no clue what you’ll do or say, 12seconds is the place to start. Here are some of the features to look out for.
Facebook Connect
The hottest new feature for 12seconds launches sometime this afternoon. Many services have jumped on the Facebook connect bandwagon, but most are just using it as yet another way to sign into stuff. Not only will 12seconds soon allow you to sign-up using your Facebook account, but it will also add your 12seconds videos directly into your Facebook stream. This means your friends and family will be able to watch your videos right on your Facebook page. I think this is a really big deal for 12seconds and should bring in a ton of new users.
To stay updated on when Facebook connect goes live, follow 12seconds on Twitter or keep an eye on the 12seconds blog.
Daily Challenge / 12erator
You have a webcam or a phone that supports video. You want to actually post videos of yourself online, but you have no idea what to say. 12seconds solves that problem with their Daily Challenge. Each day, you’re given a topic to do a video about and a winner is chosen. It’s just for fun and the videos that some people come up with are quite entertaining. The 12erator is a similar feature, but it just throws random topics at you in case the Daily Challenge isn’t your cup of tea.
Bumps and Twitter Integration
Taking a hint from FriendFeed, 12seconds implemented “bumps”, which are similar to “likes”. You bump a video or person to show appreciation. Bumping the video adds a bump to the video itself, while bumping a person adds a bump to their channel page and allows you to leave a comment.
12seconds has been referred to as the Twitter of video because of the 12-second time limit. It’s Twitter integration makes it a perfect compliment. You can set it up to post your new videos to Twitter and anytime someone ReTweets or posts the Tiny12 link (the 12seconds URL shortener) to your video, their tweet shows up in your Tweetbox on 12seconds. This way, your Twitter folks can give you props without actually visiting or even signing up for 12seconds.
12omercials / Stats
If you have something you need to promote, 12omercials give you an easy way to do so. Whether it’s a product, a tweetup, or a charity, 12omercials make it simple to get the word out. They work just like a regular 12, but you can add a link to your cause and it will also link to your Twitter account. LG and Xobni have already taken advantage of 12omercials to promote their brands and engage the community.
Along with 12omercials, we gained access to stats. It was originally just to track the 120mercials campaigns, but the 12seconds guys decided we could all benefit from knowing if anyone was watching our videos. Simply click the stats icon on any of your 12’s for details.
Are you already on 12seconds? Looking to get signed up? Post your profile link in the comments. Let’s get this video thing happening.
