Clear Cut Cool
by Sherri L. SmithNowadays, a phone has to be both stylish and functional. A cell could have all the latest and greatest tech, but will sit on the shelves collecting dust if it’s ugly. As more emphasis is placed on design, we as a mobile phone community have become shallow. As a result, cellphone companies have been falling over themselves to come up with the next big thing in design. And all that new phonage has us a bit jaded — red phones, blue phones, metallic and even jewel-encrusted cells it’s become a bit pedestrian.
The design team at LG might have just stumbled on the next big trend in mobile aesthetics — clear. That’s right, clear as in crystal. The LG-GD900 is “the world’s first transparent design phone.” While not totally see-through (the top portion of the phone is decked out in silver), the rear slider features a translucent keyboard that glows slightly when the phone is open. There’s even a matching Bluetooth headset.
Unfortunately, the folks at LG are being very tight-lipped about specific phone features, but fear not, this totally drool-worthy phone is set to hit stores later this year. For now we’re left to speculate as to what cool tricks if any this phone will be able to do. However, I would hazard a safe guess that tech-wise, there won’t be much difference between this phone and everything else one the market. This phone is all about the look, so it won’t have to reinvent the wheel with shiny new apps, but I’ve been wrong before. So start saving up, because when this phone hits stores, clear is going to be the new black.
