Pikchur Puts Your Pictures Right Where You Want Them

Pictures make your content pop. The people that pay attention to you are probably interested in what you say and do, but would definitely appreciate a visual on occasion. Pikchur is the service I chose to make sharing photos of interesting stuff as simple as possible. I can post photos when I’m mobile, and they go everywhere I need them to.

Posting Pictures

Putting your photos online is as simple as sending an email or MMS message to your unique posting email address. You can also visit the website and use the upload form, or use one of the apps that interfaces with Pikchur’s API. There is no need to actually sign up for an account. Pikchur lets you login using any of their supported services, which include: Twitter, Jaiku, Tumblr, Friendfeed, Identi.ca, Rejaw, Plurk, Koornk, and Brightkite.

There are a couple of reasonsĀ  you want to go ahead and sign up, though:

  • If you use a 3rd party account to sign in and change your password on that service, Pikchur will think you’re a new user when you come back
  • If you don’t want to publish your photos to your other micro-blogging and social media sites, you’ll need an account.

Put Your Pictures Everywhere

It’s no wonder Pikchur is a finalists for the SXSW Web Awards. The service is awesome. I can remember a while back talking with Peter Martinez on Rejaw about Pikchur and I can’t believe I’m only now using it on a regular basis. With one simple request, I can post an image to all of my acounts. It’s like Ping.fm for pictures!

  • Snap a picture
  • Send it to Pikchur
  • Pikchur posts it to over 12+ sites for you

Other Features

The Pikchur guys are working on a lot of cool things to make the site more social: Groups, Friends/Followers, Activity streams, a mobile site, and integration with more services. There are also a few features currently available that should definitely not be overlooked:

  • Geo tagging lets people know where you took your photos
  • Custom profile backgrounds
  • Extensive API allows developers to extend and enhance Pikchur with 3rd party apps
  • Photo and account management tools

You might be posting photos using Twitpic. You may be sharing them on Flickr, FriendFeed or Facebook. Using Pikchur will allow you to post your photos to all these places and more with one single action. I tried it a few times and I was instantly hooked, so you should definitely give it a look.
