Think About ‘The Black Factor’

For African-Americans, this can be a particularly prickly task to handle. Some companies are definitely more liberal than others, and often times, it can be hard to discern what to do in most instances where your race – overtly or covertly – can affect your work performance. In terms of the web and technology in general, this is just as important. Enter The Black Factor.
S. Mary Willis, an African-American worker with a background in human resources, created the site to help African-American workers deal with the continued problem in the American workplace of race-based discrimination. While the site does lean more towards African-Americans, Mary’s sound advice applies to workers regardless of race. Strategies Mary thinks workers should take when dealing with workplace issues include documenting everything so you have an active record of complaints, as well as keeping abrest of company issues by speaking up and being an active voice. Mary even cites some specific EEOC policies which relate to everyday workplace situations and how other laws on the books can either help or harm you in the workplace. Most of the articles are required reading for workers old and new, especially with unemployment rates speculated to rise as the year goes on.
