Rushmore Drive + Global Grind: A Good Match?

Fresh off the heels of their announcement of Russell Simmons as EIC and the addition of several celebrities to their blogging roster, Global Grind has now partnered with IAC’s Rushmore Drive, famous for their Black search engine and unique sorting algorithm for finding Black content on the web.

According to a recent press release, the scope of the partnership is mainly about content exchange: Rushmore Drive will populate Global Grind’s content communities, including The Daily Drive Newsletter and Detour, their op-ed section. Global Grind will bring their Digg-like features to Rushmore Drive, allowing users of both sites to vote for their favorite articles. Future plans include tighter search engine integration on Global Grind, and perhaps some celebrity featured content on Rushmore Drive.

It’s hard to say whether this will be a match made in heaven. Global Grind has been struggling to find a proper visual aesthetic or site strategy since launch, and Rushmore Drive has taken its knocks including declining traffic numbers as they approach their one year anniversary. If the two sites can complement each other and minimize their weaknesses, then perhaps we can see a more diverse and full-featured web experience for users of both sites.

What do you think? Is this partnership a good thing?
