I've seen someone announce a birth on USTREAM (that's right, live footage of the entire birth) so though this surprised me, it shouldn't have.

I don't think this is going too far at all. In fact, I think Twitter is a wonderful way for celebs to stay in touch with their fans. And it seems Badu really understands the medium, so it's all good.
