Erykah Badu & Jay Electronica Tweet birth of baby girl

If you were anywhere on Twitter today you may have caught wind of the flurry of congratulatory Tweets to @JayElectronica. He and Erykah Badu gave birth to a healthy baby girl and Tweeted the events starting when he songstress first went into labor earlier today. Soulbounce was first to break the story and is continuing the discussion with guesses on what the bay’s name will be.  Most of us here are fans of Twitter but is this going too far?  Most celebrities are using social media to disseminate CORRECT information and shut down hearsay.  Tweeting events like this allows celebrities to take control of what they want distributed, in 2009 are celebrities the new source for celebrity news?  Congrats to the new Dad and Fam.  :)

  • I don't think this is going too far at all. In fact, I think Twitter is a wonderful way for celebs to stay in touch with their fans. And it seems Badu really understands the medium, so it's all good.

  • yeah, via the New Amerykah project and so forth, we know that erykah is certainly 2.0 saavy, and it seems appropriate that we would hear about this "from the source"
  • I've seen someone announce a birth on USTREAM (that's right, live footage of the entire birth) so though this surprised me, it shouldn't have.
