I remember it like it was yesterday. My aunt came out to visit us in small town Minnesota for my 6th birthday. With her she carried a very special gift, a gift that would change my life: Nintendo. The one with duck hunt. I hooked it up to the busted TV in my room and ever since that day I have always had at least one system hooked up to my TV. Looking back on that day, I never thought that my 8-bit, primarily single-player pastime would morph in to the massive social media outlet that it has become.
Even Soulja Boy has gotten full-swing into this gaming thing. For those of you who don’t follow the gaming blogs, he’s kind of had a war going on with MTV Multiplayer Blogger Stephen Totilo. This battle started in October and has included numerous blog posts, nicely embeddable video battle cries, and tips from game creators. Basically, it’s been really fun to watch.
The battle is going to come to a head, according to the latest post on the subject, but a date and time have yet to be confirmed. Soulja Boy’s involvement in gaming in this big way — he even plans to release his own game on Xbox 360 in 2009 — much like how Obama put advertising in video games, shows how relevant a vehicle gaming has become to marketing and branding. Now watch me you.
